The story of this particular park began back in 1950, when Antwerpen hosted a successful international open air sculpture exhibition. The success of it gave the then burgomaster (mayor) Lode Craeybeckx, the idea of creating a permanent exhibition of modern sculpture. Beginning with Rodin's work, it's a collection that now consists of more than 300 sculptures.

The park has earned an international reputation out in the art world due to the fact that it contains a representative overview of 20th century sculpting but more than that, it's a pleasure to wander there ... even on the days when using a camera means that you may lose fingers to frostbite.

Sometimes you have to bleed for the art woman :)
Lol, overwhelming sympathy from the Canuck ...
You have to come over with your camera gear one day ... it's incredible out there in the park. Gert and I have only taken what we have with a small digital camera so far.
