I left New Zealand mid-2003, bound for Istanbul and a new lif. After two years, a Belgian guy lured me into his world, deep in the heart of Europe. For a long time I was an in-process immigrant. One day we married. These days it's about photography, a little red wine and wandering ... and so the journey goes.

Matthew wrote that he'd taken this other photograph at sunset on the West Coast near Punakaiki.
I love that West Coast Road ... I'm not sure of the distance but it goes on forever ... maybe 600kms of often winding, mountainous, twisting-turning, two-lane roads (often one-lane bridges, other times shared roads with train tracks) ... anyway, there was nothing better than heading out of Wanaka, driving up into the mountains and rolling down through the Gates to the Haast and onto the coast road.
From there things became increasingly stunning as I travelled the small long road from one end of the South Island to the other ... Haast, Fox and Franz Joseph Glacier townships, Hokitika, on up past Greymouth to Punakaiki and on into Abel Tasman National Park.
New Zealand might be small but it's stunning.
These images take me home for a while ...
Thank you Matthew!

Wow. You recommend a visit, to the inhabitants of small but not so stunning islands? To those of some ten times the population or whatever it is but who do not seem to so appreciate their own green & pleasant land?
I gotta find out how much a trip is next year, I bet it's lots...
Hope you're keeping well :)
Ah yes it is indeed a beautiful country ... hope to see you in it soon!!!! :)
Hey lever, the trip is about hmmm I think it's 1000 euro in airfare return. Then I'm kind of lucky with accomodation :) however I'm more than happy to recommend cool places to stay.
I thought I could read a smile in that sentence, chiefbiscuit. I hope to see it soon too.
New Zealand is way to kool! It so lovely and they got penguins ransacking the beaches too. Ohh I'm in some sort of competition where the final prize is yo xin a ticket to New Zealand. Hope I win, I want to see penguins in a warm place.
Good luck manic ... I hope you win too! I'll make you a New Zealand itinery, tell you the best places to see penguins and seals, and give you people you should see over there :)
