Via Via Cafe

Isn't it terrible when you're either not pretty enough or too old for the waiter to remember you asked for that second glass of red wine ...

I discovered Via Via Cafe here in Antwerpen and the delight is not only found in its relaxed interior, good affordable food and excellent music but there's also free wifi.

I was looking for a space out of the house, away from the madness and found this cafe on the internet. An explanation of how it began can be found here, along with an explanation of why these cafes can also be found in Indonesia, Senegal, Spain, Honduras and Tanzania.

You can find Antwerpen's Via Via in the older part of the city at Wolstraat 43, across the road from a Tram 10 and 11 stop.

I'll let you know if the wine turns up in the meanwhile ...

Update: I take it all back, the service is perfect here. The cafe is busy, the waiter forgot me. I just received my second wine 'on the house' ...

Alles goed here in the city.

Haha, Di, I think it is because you are not exotic enough for this globetrotting place. Now, if you would ask the waiter your wine with an accompanying haka, he might remember you. ;)

So gentle you are, Meneer Manic. Alles goed now, the wine was merely forgotten ... and I do believe a haka would get me thrown out of the place.

Studying well I hope.

I'm telepathically punching that waiter in the nose. It looks like a cool place tho.

Thanks furiousball, telepathically is enough though ... when he realised, he gave me a glass on the house. I'm cool with that - the free wifi is marvellous and I've done heaps of work. Tis a cool place :)

Free wifi and free wine, no wonder you love it :P

I'm in a very ironic mood today. I blame the exams.

Thanks for inviting me over Di.

Unfortunately I got stuck after the delivery of a large fridge through a rooftop window. One of those "that will never work out" experiences.

No free Wifi of good wine anywhere within reach, only a "rather messy place" :-)

If you love ViaVia you'd probably also like 'Mosquito Coast Cafe' in Gent, a great travel café/bar/ restaurant. It's on Hoogpoort in the historical centre of town - check it out if you ever visit Gent!

Hey bedankt, Inge. I love places like that. I feel like I need to visit Gent, and Manic, just to see the cafe now :)

Hmmm, sorry for not replying Peter and Manic. Your comments got caught at the back-end of my blog somehow. I didn't find them till later, even though they date higher than other comments I replied to ... if you can follow my 'Di' way of explaining.

It's okay Peter, I completely understood and I continued working, as I should have.

Poor Manic ... horrible exam study.
