This bookshop has to be one of the best English bookshops in the world ... well, the world according to Di (I'm not sure I would take too much notice but anyway ... )
Shakespeare and Co is just across the road from Notre Dame, should you find yourself in Paris.
I left New Zealand mid-2003, bound for Istanbul and a new lif. After two years, a Belgian guy lured me into his world, deep in the heart of Europe. For a long time I was an in-process immigrant. One day we married. These days it's about photography, a little red wine and wandering ... and so the journey goes.

It's great, isn't it? When we first went there the old men was still fairly active and living on the premises... But the last time we didn't see him, although he was alive and well....
Hi Di,
I'll have to email you the painting I did of Shakespeare & Co. It was one of the first oil paintings I did and it's completely amature, but it makes me smile everytime I see it. This photo is "so Paris." - Shakespeare & Co is my husbands favorite place to while a Sunday afternoon away and trip to Paris for him is not complete without hours spent in the hallowed walls. The last time we were there the famous owner invited us for tea in his apartment upstairs - he then promptly fell asleep upon serving tea!!
It is, isn't it Paola. It was like being in Reader's Heaven. I left with 3 books, and felt naughty and delighted in the same moment but it was so crowded. I need to research it some now, I knew nothing ... shameful but true.
I would love to see the painting you did, Ms Antiques Diva. The colours and light on the front of the shop, combined with the writing and 'stuff' made it a delicious subject. I hope to return on another day when things are quieter.
Tea with the owner ... who fell asleep. Now that is delicious!
