I left New Zealand mid-2003, bound for Istanbul and a new lif. After two years, a Belgian guy lured me into his world, deep in the heart of Europe. For a long time I was an in-process immigrant. One day we married. These days it's about photography, a little red wine and wandering ... and so the journey goes.
I was trailing behind Lut and Gert who were talking of political things ... I oftentimes trail when my camera is with me and I spotted this sprout and did a 'drive-by' shoot.
i spotted this weird cactus in Austin, TX that i never photographed, but always wished I had, the little fella looked like a man in a karate stance. i miss my karate cactus i used to see on my morning commute
Lol V. Well I have an unfortunate brussels sprout incident in my past so I knew.
For a while, while living on the airforce base back home in NZ, I hooked up with a friend who talked me into pruning grapevines with her at one of the many wineries that surrounded us when I lived in Marlborough.
And that was okay, Baileys was involved, we laughed often and the weather was good.
So based on that I went apple picking and learned to drive a tractor ... another fun experience.
THEN she talked me into pickin sprouts.
The clue should have been the wet weather gear and gumboots I had to wear. It's crap picking brussel sprouts, it's best to think they come from the freezer, let me tell you ... squatting picking muddy cold ouchy.
I lasted one hour and stood up, saying to my boss, 'I'm sorry, there are things that I'll do but this is one of those things that I just can't talk myself into.'

We live and we learn :) I'm glad I photographed this ugly little brussel sprout plant then.
I had no idea brussel sprouts came from such weird looking plants. At my house they always came from the freezer compartment...
