I left New Zealand mid-2003, bound for Istanbul and a new lif. After two years, a Belgian guy lured me into his world, deep in the heart of Europe. For a long time I was an in-process immigrant. One day we married. These days it's about photography, a little red wine and wandering ... and so the journey goes.
Dear favourite plonker, I really can't say as one of the words is a bad word however I will email you regarding said bad work ;) Hey, you would so love this hashing thing I think.
I'm truly confused. What is hashing and does it involve men in skirts?
You know the famous blog BoingBoing? I swear this shot could get featured there and be seen by millions of people! Up at the top left of the page there is a "Suggest Links" tab. I looked and they need more information about the shot than I can give. It's now up to you.....
It's a long explanation for another time I think. I'm sweltering in a hot muggy Napoli night, completely without the brain function to explain, Lydia :)
See lots of info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_House_Harriers
A common special event is the Red Dress Run, and is held annually by individual kennels. According to hasher lore, a newcomer in San Diego was invited to a hash run. Unbeknownst to her, it was a running group, and she attended the run in a red dress instead of running clothes. Upon being mocked for wearing such an outfit, she ran the trail anyway. Other hashers began wearing red dresses as a joke, and the tradition soon became an annual event that spread across the world. The point of the run is that all participants (both sexes) don red dresses of various sorts. The Red Dress Run is typically the largest event organized by a kennel in a given year, with attendance topping 2,000 in San Diego, and 600 in Washington, D.C..
Red Dress Runs are traditionally used as charity fundraisers, although the hash itself is not per-se a charitable body.
