In Belgium, children take their First Communion at 6 and there is a small celebration marking the moment.
I was delighted to be given the opportunity to photograph the daughter of friends in her Communion clothes while I was in Ieper and this was a particular favourite from that day.
I left New Zealand mid-2003, bound for Istanbul and a new lif. After two years, a Belgian guy lured me into his world, deep in the heart of Europe. For a long time I was an in-process immigrant. One day we married. These days it's about photography, a little red wine and wandering ... and so the journey goes.

I love all the textures and soft shadows, and of course, her hands, a Di Mackey trademark shot.
so beautiful Di
Stunning photograph (your trademark hands, as V-Grrrl said), stunning dress - love the trio of buttons up on the left - and it brings back such memories.
Beautiful picture. 6 is early, but then, I think my holy communion was at 8, not that much later.
Isn't it odd that others see what my trademark shots and/or favourite colours often before I do, Ms V. Mark commented on the colours that I seem drawn to again and again in my photography and I find it fascinating because it's usually unconscious until somebody tells me :)
Thanks Van.
It was a beautiful dress on a lovely little girl, Barbara :)
I have no idea how old I was Lizardrinking but it happened :)
