No one can make us into bystanders without our consent.

"Every day, people should resist the urge to turn away when scenes of horror unfold across the world and fight the impulse to turn the channel when we see images that disturb us or wrap ourselves in the false comfort that others' sufferings are not our own."

The president also urged people to make a habit of empathy, "to recognize ourselves in each other."

Extracts from a speech by US President Barack Obama.

I'm reading John Simpson's 'The Wars Against Saddam' at the moment, Tara and I'm hoping that Barack Obama can avoid past corrupt behaviours by so many governments in their dealings with the Middle East, as revealed in the book.

Wise Walt, Pouty Lips. Thanks for the quote.
