It was meant to be a day of fun and frivolity, pre-a day spent in Amsterdam but I woke to a houseful of sick people.

Our little petrie dish formerly known as Little Miss Three seems to be couriering kindergarten germs home in her pure little southern hemisphere body as it adjusts to life in the northern hemisphere.

So Gert is coughing, as is mother of the petrie dish - our place sounds like an emphysema ward and me, well slightly more healthy, it seems I have been assigned the role of the cleaning/cooking house-slave.

Fortunately I am a woman and therefore, immensely satisfied by the above role, born catholic, I also do a nice line in martyr.

So Amsterdam will have to wait for another healthier day.
Sigh.

Petrie dish, lol :D
I've got the feeling you've adjusted better to northern living than Gert :D and he's been here all his life.

Amsterdam isn't going anywhere, well not yet, so another day, another picture :D

I promised not to scrub toilets today. I scrubbed toilets anyway.

I cleaned up my art table, tried to make something but wasn't happy with it yet.

I bought groceries.

I refused to take my duffle bag upstairs and unpack it. I will pretend I'm still going somewhere...

Like manictastic said ... Amsterdam will not run away. Enjoy the thunder and lightning we have this evening, it must be a beautifull view from your livingroom window ... anyway, I've talked with St.-Peter about december 28th ... Lut

Hi Lut, good to read about St Peter :)

The lightning was impossible to ignore. Even though the curtains were closed, the whole room was lit up by an incredible white flash ... then came the thunder!

Oh v-grrrl, you're so bad but I guess I'm something similar ... writes the woman who did 3 loads of washing, grocery shopped, dishes and cooked most of dinner.

Sigh, Amsterdam would have been nice. I guess we'll have it another day :)

I used to believe Amsterdam just felt better during Christmas, but after having lived there near the canals for some considerable time (in a previous life, I've been wandering myself) I got tired of the Christmas crowds.

The same experience with Paris: just try to get into Les galeries Lafayette in December: there's no "Christmas spirit" at all, just a pushy crowd lining up along the Boulevard. And yes, they will step onto your best shoes without saying 'excusez-moi'.

V, I know how it feels when a trip gets delayed. Remember Marlene Dietrich when she sang "Ich Hab' Noch Einen Koffer In Berlin" ('I still have a suitcase in Berlin', years after she left Germany).

I still have my diving gear in a Scubapro bag in my bedroom, and I refuse to unpack it. I must be real stubborn (or pathetic, as it would take half a miracle to be able to use it again), although there's nothing wrong with holding on to a 'ready to go' bag for an upcoming trip.

Di, I replaced "woman" with "man" in your post:

"it seems I have been assigned the role of the cleaning/cooking house-slave. Fortunately I am a woman [man] and therefore, immensely satisfied by the above role, born catholic, I also do a nice line in martyr."
and hey presto:
a picture of yours truly :-))

To top it all off, I found an old blogger weblog I dropped some years ago, so I'm no longer 'anonymous'.

I called my brother after that lightning flash - for a moment it sounded like some of the petrochemical plants had exploded in Antwerp harbour.

Anyway, I do hope the viral infections will clear up asap, allowing for a great trip to Amsterdam!

Sigh, I still have a bag or two in Istanbul, many bags in New Zealand ... I need to go traveling.

Like you, I suspected something bad, in my case, that the twin towers of evil (otherwise known as a nuclear power plant) had exploded.

That first lightning strike was a stunner!

And you, my dear vriend, seem to be almost the perfect man :) I've never met a man who could do all that stuff that I have to do.
