Moi, Antwerpen Zoo

Moi, originally uploaded by - di.

Gert captured the Di creature while at the zoo - a visitor, not an inhabitant. I was so lost in my photography this afternoon that I had no idea he was photographing me. In honour of this rare achievement, I am posting the result.

The hat was made by a neighbour back in my Portobello days on the Otago Peninsula in Dunedin and I feel an unreasonable attachment to it despite the fact that it falls over my eyes repeatedly. The scarf is Istanbul ... the weather, pure freezing cold mid-winter Antwerpen.

May I say it? You look quite dashing and bohemian, much like Annie Leibowitz.

It's a great picture--you in your element. (I don't mean the zoo; I mean your photography.) And a fantastic hat too!

Great photo. Gert really has the skill to capture you, not easy as I found out :)

Very chilly looking as I sit with wine and strawberries in 22c.

Gary, you may and can you see my huge smile? I watched a documentary on Annie a couple of nights ago and was left thinking 'when I grow up, I want to be Annie Leibowitz'. But I would settle for her incredible talent :)

You like the hat, RD :) I imagined a mocking because it's an odd little hat but yes, lost in the process of photography feels pretty good to me. We almost froze yesterday though ... it took hours to warm up after we finally arrived home.

I am usually hyper-aware of the camera, Jules and told Gert I might have to hide his big lens if he continues to misuse it :)

He did that raised eyebrow thing that he does to me sometimes, in reply ...

Are you sure you're not an inhabitant of the zoo, because you look so natural in the setting :D Gert captured you lovely :)

Thanks to your Gert for capturing this lovely image and to you for sharing it! Even there in the freezing weather I can see how doing what you love gives you a glow, for which the hat is the piece de resistance.

Thank you Lydia :) I'm usually so resistant to having my photograph taken but I really didn't feel a thing in this one.

Manic, you know you could be a kiwi with that mocking thing you do ... ;)

Thanks Barbara, I even had one of my gloves off which was foolishness indeed :)

Indeed J, but he seems to have captured a small glimpse :)

You all made him smile, you especially Tara xo

Dear Mr. Gert,

I must have that photo of the rare, two-legged, hat-crested, mocking kiwi bird of legend.

Pretty please?

You know where to find me.(Not at the zoo.) : )

Dear Ms V-Grrrl,

I had to ask the creature in question for your e-mailaddress, and even though she knew what I needed it for, she just gave it to me.
Isn’t she wonderful?

Gert

Well, I'm glad you two sorted that out :) and so very polite.

Loved this photo, Di:) Bravooooo to Gert from Istanbul:)
Loved your hat -did I tell you before I'm a crazy 'deli' lover of hats?!
And, your scarf is from Istanbul? Wow, so wonderful so... Thanks for sharing this beauty, that I forgot how freezing Istanbul now-a-days..

Warm greetings from snowy Istanbul.

Hey Nihal, Gert smiled over your message. I'm glad my hat is more lovable than I had imagined, I had thought I might have been quirky in loving it.

Istanbul ... that's where all my best scarfs from! I hope to be back in 2009.

Warm greetings from Antwerpen too.
