For those of you who haven't guessed, I adore the non-fiction writing of Frances Mayes, identifying with so much of what she writes about. I found this quote while I was reading on the way to work yesterday morning and loved it.
Frances is writing of Colette: She liked in her early adult life to "move house". Intensely domestic, she was also restless. This oxymoron is one source of my identification with her.
"Whereever you are, you're thinking of somewhere else," my first husband accused me. Sadly, he spoke the truth. Only later, when I lived in places I wanted to be, did the restlessness cool.
I left New Zealand mid-2003, bound for Istanbul and a new lif. After two years, a Belgian guy lured me into his world, deep in the heart of Europe. For a long time I was an in-process immigrant. One day we married. These days it's about photography, a little red wine and wandering ... and so the journey goes.

I totally guessed that.
Well no, but thanks for sharing a new to me author.
Oh. My.
My husband has said something very similar about my state of being, and not said it kindly.
I'm waiting to see if my restlessness cools in my new location, otherwise I might have to sell my life on eBay and start over in a place where Thinkers and Dreamers are Adored. : )
In. Deed. :)
The place where Thinkers and Dreamers adored ... do let me know, although this second marriage isn't bad as things go.
furiousball, I found and released your comment second but there it is first ... anyway, mocking me?
I've been carrying 'Under the Tuscan Sun' since I lived in Marlborough, NZ - it's that adored by me.
Taieri Mouth looks very Pacifician in that photo!
It does, doesn't it, chiefbiscuit. It's one of my favourite beach photographs from back home in NZ.
I can't wait to get back there and fill up on NZ images.
I love her writing too! What a great quotation!
