Three Cups of Tea, Greg Mortenson

If you only read one book this year, then I would pretty much plead with you about reading this book, by Greg Mortenson, titled Three Cups of Tea.

It's a stunning story that confirms the idea that one person really can make a difference. I devoured it while riding on trams, waiting at tram stops, eating lunch between taking photographs and could only admire the way Greg ran headlong into the most stunning brick walls again and again and again, only to stand up and keep trying and in doing so ... well, he has changed the lives of 1000s of children.

I love that it's not just the theory thing but that he's out there walking the walk as he talks the talk. There are articles about the work Greg does here.

So ummm yes, the book is informative, well-written and leaves me full of hope.

You can purchase it here or over at here.

Thank you Ms V ... you didn't need to bring gifts, your visit was gift enough but I loved the book but I guess you got that by now.

Note: there will be mistakes in this post, I'm tired. As I write this, Jessie is putting the last of my exhibition photographs together in their unique format. Printing, framing and hanging them tomorrow ... posting them over the weekend hopefully.

  3. I am glad to put that book into your hands during a time when you really needed the message AND the distraction.

Gift-giving is such a pleasure, and I'm glad to once again be in a place in my life where I can indulge in it a bit.

Friendship, however, is the greatest gift of all. : )

P.S. Go Jess! You are the ultimate Web Woman (kinda like Spiderman, but with better clothes).

  4. Good luck tomorrow! I've been wanting to read that book forever. Everytime I'm on Amazon it calls to me. Speaking of books - I put your sweater and a bunch of books in the mail to you!

  6. I really enjoyed this book. It was very inspiring - he is so selfless. Though I really felt for his wife. She had to make quite a few sacrifices in her life, also.

  8. Oh do, Van. It's a goody.

I felt a bit wicked pushing a book but really, this one is good. I could feel myself devouring it in those moments between things that had to be done.

Thanks, Ms V. It was so very appreciated and Jess smiled.

Thanks for the books and the jersey, Tonya :) And the book, yes ... I think you will really enjoy it.

I think it's so good to read about how one person can make such a huge difference, Carolien and not only that, he struggles so terribly hard at times. It's a good reminder about the bad times where we feel like we're doing nothing.

Hey Lydia. I guess it's one of those marriages where you marry the man aware of what's ahead. I remember reading climber's stories with a similar lot for those wives but they had fallen in love with the man as he was and didn't want to change him.

So ... what will you do, cats or dogs? Lol, good luck.

We do need to catch up, Julie. I saw you were off home soon, let me know next time you have some time. Definitely an idea eh wot. xo
