Rome - my first full day in the city

And what an incredible day ...

I revisited Castel Sant'Angelo, my favourite place here and I am truly delighted with some of the photographs taken there. Rome offered up 15 celsius, sunshine and some periods of interesting dark grey cloud, enhanced by strong sunlight - Bernini's statues truly revelled in it all.

I'm using the little travelling laptop, downsizing and putting my watermark on them is more than I have the energy for ... so photographs to follow on my return home but I am delighted with this day's work.

I wandered all day so tonight I'm footsore and weary but still smiling over the scooter ride an old friend gave me at the end of his working day ... driving me up onto a hill overlooking Rome. The view was grand however I absolutely love the whole scooter thing and that has left me smiling like a small but very happy child.

Ciao from one of the most beautiful cities in the world!

  3. Hey, thank you Lou and RD. Rome is so very beautiful with her light and her buildings and all that stuff!

I'm just in from dinner alone at the trattoria next door to the hotel and couldn't resist checking in on my little travel laptop. The wifi spot in the hotel is in this little cold room near the elevator - the big glass window means that you see everyone arriving and leaving and I can't resist looking, as I'm checking for the American and Canadian I'm meeting here.

It's some kind of tv, internet, drinks room and on the big flatscreen high up and to my right, is some American forensic show that I almost recognise but the Italiano dubbing is throwing me off completely.

    Anyway, photos to follow ...

  4. Rememember, you've got to make it to San Luigi dei Francesi. It turns out that Caravaggio might have been experimenting with early photographic techniques - apparently he turned his studio into a sort of camera oscura, and used chemicals to turn his canvasses into a sort of photographic emulsion. It's all explained in this here article.

  6. Grazie for the article, Giovanni. I saved it into a word document to read in my internet-less room. I'll plan a little more than I have so far and try to get to these places. I have this terrible habit of seeing what unfolds :)

Oh Tara! It's just been lovely.

  10. P.S. Jules, I have blisters ... as usual. New shoes, walked too far, bare feet inside sneakers ... insanity. My chronic tendonitis a bit solid thing but the pain has disappeared ... on the up side.

  11. The blisters, poor you. I hope you're getting taxis this time and haven't got a mad woman with you who wants to walk :)

lol, you'll have to come and visit the hot lands. Can organise a desert trip plus the pool!

  12. Hey Jules ... nope, I was using the underground metro and the buses this time. I do believe I have mastered Rome's public transport system, finally. I've found a brilliant hotel too, so next time we hook up over there, it will be that much easier.
