I suspect that Peter is far too much of a gentleman to blog about my extraordinarily silly moment today ...
I love moleskin journals and I was excited when I recently realised that there was a new black moleskin in town ... a weekly diary and notebook no less.
Today was the day I went to the city to buy my very own new bigger better moleskin journal to begin while I was in Italy.
I met Peter for coffee at our cafe afterwards and couldn't resist unwrapping the moleskin, you know, just to check all was as it should be, well ... it turns out I had overlooked the whole 2000 and 9 thing.
The book started January 1 2009 which didn't suit me at all.
Jessie and Gert were laughing at me tonight and they asked when I thought my new moleskin would date from and I confessed that I hadn't thought about that at all but potentially the child in me imagined a magical start, you know, on the day that I needed it to begin ...
Tonight, a little bit of kiwi ingenuity (or idiocy. I guess I should let you choose your own word), lots of glue and some patience and I've re-dated from 17 October 2009 forward, creating my very own, starting-on-the-17th-2008/2009-moleskin-journal.
Oh and, as before, if you would like a postcard while I'm in Italy, let me know. I still have your addresses from last time but if you are new and need a postcard from Italy, let me know your address via email and I'll send at least one from some other place.
Tot straks from me.
Well Di, you are far too much of a very special lady to laugh at for an oversight I could see myself making too. Very ingenious to adapt your new moleskin journal to your own specific needs.
ReplyDeleteAs always it was a pleasure meeting you yesterday at a place that has kind of become our café.
In addition to your lovely company I like the "metrosexual" flavor of this "gay/straight mixed" large see-through café, with its buzzing street-side terrace in the historic car-free part of downtown Antwerp(en) - conveniently located close to my home.
Much like I took delight in leaving Antwerp for Turkey, I can perfectly imagine how much you're going to enjoy immersing yourself in the sights and sounds of Italy.
I loved getting your previous postcards, as you appear to be one of the few people who still take the time to mail personalized hand-written cards, a gesture that was much appreciated.
Love the magical thinking. Makes some of the frustrations of the world go a little better. Have a perfect trip with your new perfect moleskin journal. Go, and make yourself some magic.
ReplyDelete'Ingenious' ... now that's a very kind word, Peter. Dank u wel!
ReplyDeleteAnd Ms Shiny, I do believe we could now call the moleskin imperfectly perfect :) Thanks for you wishes, I'll try with the self-made magic ... but I've woken with what seems like might be a cold. Let's see how today pans out.
Oh, Di, you DO make me laugh! But how clever of you to take that moleskin and make it uniquely yours.
ReplyDeleteWell yes ... you made me smile, Christina.
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't confess this but even worse, Gert and Jessie (fortunately) realised that I was planning on starting at the start of the yearly planner/journal and changing ALL dates.
Jessie came over and pointed out, calmly and then calmly, why I should start in the middle of my 2009 book, in October actually, meaning that I only had to change until January 1 2009.
Sometimes, when I'm on a 'dumb bender' there is no end to the amusement options for those observing.
we have to try and change things 'till they fit our taste, no? you made me laugh too - i guess a part of that was remembering the first many years of using a calendar; i had never seen a moleskin and didn't like anything i could find. so every summer, before the unset of a new semester, i would make myself a calendar. starting with a blank notebook, this took some work! hurray for stubbornness!
ReplyDeletehave a sweet trip, i'm looking forward to some italian views.
Why doesn't this surprise me? :D
ReplyDeleteoh those poor moles
ReplyDelete;-)
oh di! i totally understand. i'm a bit OCD about my journals, esp. those moleskins. i have the same planner/notebook, bought the 2009 one and returned it because i decided that i couldn't wait that long, i want instant gratification goshdarnit! i finally found a july 08-december 09 one after hours of scouring bookstores.
ReplyDeletekudos to you for being creative!
1 of January? Who decided that? To me the new year starts in September... You know, after the holidays, kids at school... And while we are in Italy I shall find one of my favourite little things that I had forgotten, a "smemoranda", a diary that starts in september, for lunar perople like us (ok it doesn't make sense, shall I say lunatic?)
ReplyDeleteThank you, kompostella and I love your stubborn determination. It's about making the world us maybe :)
ReplyDeleteWell Manic, it might be that you know me and have read similar things on this blog before ;)
I don't know Van - it's a good cause, or says me :)
Hi Odessa. Well, you know I thought about leaving it sitting till 2009 but I couldn't, it's too perfect for what I need with interviews and business cards and a mobile storage option with elastic to hold it together. My life often needs elastic to hold it together ;) But congrats on persevering and finding one that works.
You know, that's a really good point Paola, especially in this world where your long summer break is in entirely the wrong months. It was simpler in New Zealand, it's high summer, the long school break ends in at the end of January ... the diary worked there but it so doesn't here.
I had never heard of your 'smemoranda'. I wonder what else we'll find there.
Us lunatics?
:) Maybe.
