I've been at work all day but this stuck me as amusing.
My granddaughter creature was giving me a rather powerful face massage and I asked her what it was about ... as I was reading her her bedtime story at time.
She explained.
'I'm pushing Dutch into you Granma!'
But of course, why didn't I know.
she's going to put Rosetta Stone out of business.

Raf, it might be that there was an explosion of laughter both when I read your comment, then again when I relayed it the others here ...
It could be that you're right, although one of the train ticket sellers at central station has decided to immerse me in nederlands and tonight, one of the green aldermen also decided immersion is the key to Di's improvement.
Sigh ...
Don't be too hard on yourself Di, think about how long it takes a new born child to speak even some sense with full immersion...you are doing well.

ReplyDeleteI believe immersion is indeed a preferred approach, but I think you already master Dutch on a level that is quite good.
Guess you only need that little push to use what you already master on a daily basis ;-)

ReplyDeleteEveryone's pushing these days ...I tried to blog about the guy selling me my train ticket at Central Station, he must have remembered me from my once weekly trip ... he decided it was time to immerse me and showed no mercy. I couldn't believe it and he was mostly serious with just a bit of a smile.
Aren't grandkids the best?
ReplyDeleteI must admit I have only made the leap out of necessity - and unfortunately it is not often necessary as they are so quick to speak English...

ReplyDeleteI know Suzanne, with me my use of Dutch usually earns a 'Wablief? Oh, you speak English. Let's talk English.' I admire that kind of thinking in a Flemish person but I get off the hook so often ;)
