I thought I would share a slice of this crazy insane life ...
I'm just in from the city, phone-talking to Martin as I walked home from the tram. Inside and I poured a glass of red wine from the box (To to be read in a whisper: the Chilean red wine, Gato Negro, comes in 3L boxes. I discovered this while searching for a supply of the yummy French brie in France. If that's not a crime against French wine, I don't know what is but the price pleased me and I bought some.)
The wine was going to be about sitting down and relaxing.
It could be that Miss Four has a similar impulse in mind, I'm not sure but she headed out on the balcony, door open so that she could serenade me (and the neighbours) at a volume an opera singer would be delighted to achieve on that night when the microphone breaks down.
Then, just as things were coming together and normality looked possible ... the bolognese was on the table and 'BANG', the cooked spaghetti was all over the floor just behind me.
So we're just cooking another and I poured a new glass of wine ...
So wait, how did the bolognaise splash itself onto the floor?

Oh: wine from a box? Barbarian! :d
I just heard a story on NPR a few days ago about how more and more fine wine is being packaged in boxes. I know it sounds crazy, but there may come a day when it's not considered barbaric anymore. (Some wine connoisseurs are in a dead faint on the floor at the moment!)
ReplyDeleteyeah, I agree with rd, the box thing is becoming popular with many "upper scale" vinos
ReplyDeleteNooooo, Manic. The bolognaise was on the table in the pan, it was the big pot of spaghetti that was dropped on the floor behind me. Jessie had forgotten to wear oven gloves ... the handles were hot.
ReplyDeleteWell, you know this wine from the box is a nice table wine that costs 5euro a bottle ... but a 3L box was 12euro. You do the maths ;)
I can imagine them fainting, rd. There was only one boxed wine I enjoyed back home. It was the Banrock line ... but this Gato Negro isn't bad.
And there's me still struggling with the rubber corks they started using in Australia before I left, Van. I kind of slunk out of the French supermarket with the box in my bag out of sight ...
I pretend the box wine is for cooking so have an expensive ish one in the trolley too. Not adverse to drinking both, any vino in a storm!
ReplyDeleteOh no the dropped dinner, have done that myself. Think I was also sorting out fighting sons at the time. Women are usually such good multi taskers. Hope Jess is OK.
Well a couple of bottles of French were slipped in for the purposes of experimentation. French wine shelves are overwhelming ... I know and love Gigondas and after that ... it's more hit and miss.
ReplyDeleteGert's parents, who love a nice wine, actually recommended Gato Negro as an everyday kind of table wine and I like to have an everyday kind of table wine in the house.
Jessie was fine, she just couldn't hold onto the hot handles any longer. The noise was impressive though, as was the mess.
aggggh! maybe with burned hands you lose your appetite and just grab the wine?
ReplyDeleteLol, not quite Gary but the fright did make me reach for it ... and they were Jessie's burned hands, so there was less pain for me.
ReplyDeleteStill laughing over "a volume an opera singer would be delighted to achieve on that night when the microphone breaks down."
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe I'm familiar with that.
The Wee Curly Grrrl lives LARGE.
She does :)
