Sometimes, while out here and wandering, I've wondered whether the psyche of a nation isn't somehow hinted at by the way that they treat their street animals.
Istanbul is also a city of street cats and dogs and sure, sometimes their life is imperfect but so many are tagged and neutered and left free, fed by the people.
Here's one I found in the gardening section of the market at Eminonu ... up the back from the leeches and ducklings.
I left New Zealand mid-2003, bound for Istanbul and a new lif. After two years, a Belgian guy lured me into his world, deep in the heart of Europe. For a long time I was an in-process immigrant. One day we married. These days it's about photography, a little red wine and wandering ... and so the journey goes.

oh what a lovely...thinking of my cat rescuing friends in brussels, who vaccinate and neuter street cats with their own hard-owned money....
