I left New Zealand mid-2003, bound for Istanbul and a new lif. After two years, a Belgian guy lured me into his world, deep in the heart of Europe. For a long time I was an in-process immigrant. One day we married. These days it's about photography, a little red wine and wandering ... and so the journey goes.

Ik heb de griep
Huge dramatic sigh that fades into tired ... I have the flu.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear, not again. It's the pollution I tell you. Well, maybe not directly, but I wonder if it does something to ones immune system somehow.
By crikey, Shanti - it's dirty ol' Europe. Antwerp just fits into one of the most polluted areas of Europe ... information courtesy of christina's blog.
Thanks guys ... I hope I do too, as I'm a horrible horrible patient ;)
You know Di, at first I thought you remembered it was April 1st - there's no longer any flu in Belgium at present: http://www.iph.fgov.be/flu/EN/ari_cont.pdf , but then I realized you probably really caught another acute respiratory infection...
The Antwerp air quality http://www.antwerpen.be /eCache/BTH/6/614.cmVjPTU5NTk.html is monitored 24/24, the passed few weeks have been quite normal: http://www.vmm.be/lucht /cijfers_en_databanken/meetresultaten-lucht
Hmmm, that's interesting. This version came from kindergarten creature and she's just back from the doctor who said that the cough could go on for 4-5 weeks.
There's nothing she can give her to speed it though ...
I did this in Turkey too, working as a teacher, I was exposed to all the bugs and had an 'interesting' first year.
Di, I'm 99% certain you are getting repeatedly infected by viruses originating in the local kindergarten: I've seen it happen so often (and suffered a nasty Rotavirus infection after baby-sitting that made me end up in the local ER..)
As you had the same experience in Turkey, consider it a confirmed diagnosis.
Well, I can only wish you all the best and a speedy recovery - it won't be simple to prevent infections with a toddler in kindergarten.
If it's any consolation, Vaughan used to get sick all the time when we were living in Gent - it must be that weak Kiwi constitution huh ;-). I hope you get well soon!
Thursday, I slept on and off all day but only took 2 doses of painkillers ... progress :)
Lol, definately Inge. NZ men are famous for their poor constitutions ;)
I guess it's exposure to new germs, and I did this teaching in Turkey but the kindergarten germs are kind of disgusting ... more free-ranging snot involved I guess.
By crikey woman! You get sick all the time!!!
ReplyDeleteFeel better~ xoxox

Thanks Peter, I might talk to the doctor and see what's to be done, as we really can't afford this repetitive cycle.

ReplyDeleteKeep strong Di. Don't let those nasty germs win.
