Guess what I'm buying next week ...

Click here and then press play and you'll hear something of what I miss most while living in Belgium.

And then there's the sound of the 2000kms of coastline on my South Island of New Zealand.

Back home, I was lucky enough to live in Dunedin on the east coast of the South Island, in Cromwell, Central Otago ... up in Marlborough and finally over in Fiordland.

In a Nature shop over in Brussels, I listened to some soundtracks like those above and my body went into a state of deep longing.

This kiwi chick is going to make do with some audio tracks until she can get home for a fix.

  1. We'll never have anything even vaguely resembling the natural beauty of NZ Di, and I perfectly understand your need to listen to the sounds of home.

I feel the word 'home' is what it is all about: no matter where you are, NZ will always be home - and that's perfectly OK.

Home to me has always been the location where the ones I loved resided, but given the rather "generic" beauty of Belgium I never missed this country.

Strange, isn't it: I never was homesick, but I did profoundly missed the ones I loved, and often had to leave behind.

  2. Di, truly, I didn't know when I posted today's post ... But if the rumour is true that you are on your way back to NZ for a visit this year, then I don't feel quite so bad about adding to your homesickness. ;)

  3. yum, i love auditory scenery like the sounds of ocean and stuff. that white noise is the best. i live in the woods and cicadas and bugs making noise at night is the best during cool summer evenings with the windows open

  4. Hmmm home ... that's something else for me. I call a hotel home after one night, I'm fine anywhere but sometimes I miss familiar things.

Double-glazing in a quiet neighbourhood means that I hear very little here ... after the city noises of Istanbul and the natural sounds of NZ, it's just a little quiet after a long cold closed-window winter.

I was laughing with an old friend on the phone last week - we haven't seen each other in almost 4 years but we picked up the phone and began talking as if our previous conversation had just finished yesterday. That's how it is ... but it will be a little sweeter when I have the ocean or bush choice for my mind.

You made me smile chiefbiscuit. I went over had a catch-up of your recent posts. It was lovely :)

I've always been like that, furiousball. Rain on a tin roof is another favourite, add the smell and voila, life is good. I would choose that over a tropical island paradise any day.
