I left New Zealand mid-2003, bound for Istanbul and a new lif. After two years, a Belgian guy lured me into his world, deep in the heart of Europe. For a long time I was an in-process immigrant. One day we married. These days it's about photography, a little red wine and wandering ... and so the journey goes.
You know when you're wandering alongside the Seine one evening on your way home from your very first visit to the slightly incredible Notre Dame and you notice the light ... ?
Well I was trying to capture the light in this photograph.
Air pollution does have an upside after all Di :) You probably don't remember how harsh the light can be down this neck of the woods. Years ago I was talking to a Kodak rep about the filters Kodak had on hand to offer traveling journo's covering some major sporting event in New Zealand (i forget which). It seems the colour correction filter had to be incredibly complex to reproduce the same results on the Kodak film they used in the Northern hemisphere.
I'm struggling here, the new laptop has a very different screen and the settings are still for best viewing text as opposed to photographs ... the photograph posted looks stunning our the 'photo desktop' but very bland on my laptop.
I guess everyone sees something different when they look at it.

All hail air pollution then :)

Glad to have you back--and the light is stunning here. Must get back to Paris.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to be back v-grrrl. Keep me in mind when you go back to Paris, we could take our cameras and flee for a weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw your picture it was kinda dark, but all of a sudden -now- it's much cleared and way more beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGood to have ya back, champ!
Bedankt Meneer Manic ;)
