And then ...

Last night, Lisen took a break from packing for their 10.30am Sunday flight and worked on the Hummus and Guacamole with Yakup... the kitchen was a pleasure to be in with the camera last night.

Even better, Gert and I returned from the mad dash and sad goodbyes at Brussels Airport this morning and I learned that a little guacamole on pita bread is very good morning after food. Quite some wine had been consumed during the evening.

We had set our alarm clocks for 6.30 this morning and managed to leave the building just after 7.30am ... it will be a slow day today I think.

A huge teşekkürler to Lisen and Yakup for being such lovely guests.

    No Toffee Pops left ... 'Alllllllll gone!' as little Jessie used to say.

    They were superb and yummie, and much appreciated, even by the my chocolate snob Belgian. He now understands that it might be that New Zealand's range of biscuits is far far better than what's on offer here ;)

  5. Hi Alison ... we were shocked out of bed by the alarm at 6.30am, in various stages of shattered. 11am reads like a far more preferable start to the day after.

    We arrived at the airport in time to have coffee and say goodbye ... we should have come on over for brunch at your place afterwards eh ...

    I adore hummus and had never made it Margaret. Now I know how, it should appear at all future parties :)

  6. I couldn't help but think about your Turkish friends when I spent several hours at the Brussels travel fair yesterday. Turkey has come a long way: after they passed Spain as Belgium's favorite vacation package destination, they were very busy selling "homes in the Turkish sun" in Brussels. Unfortunately there was no Turkish food on sale, but the Thais were running a complete oriental restaurant to make up for it. Anyway, 250 EUR for a 5 day cititrip to Istanbul is really cheap, I must give it a try someday :)

  7. Istanbul ... if you ever do travel there Peter, I would be so happy to write you up a list of things you might enjoy seeing :) It's a stunning city, a mix of ancient and post modern and everything in between, with some of the friendliest people I've known ...

  8. You can buy common-or-garden hummus from the local store but it never tastes as good as by the fair hand of those who know it best does it? :) Our local Kebab shop makes the best hummus there is, it's definitely got some secret ingredient in it... addictive!
